Designing and building a scripted chatbot to guide visitors through my portfolio.

Strategy



The purpose of this chatbot is to interact with users, greet them, provide them with the option of self-service, answer simple inquiries, guide visitors to the right page and give character to my portfolio.


This chatbot's main goal is to personalize my website's user experience. It aims to deliver relevant information effectively and at the right time. The chatbot is designed to ask relevant questions about topics that interest the user. The questions are based on previous data collected from my Portfolio Design Case Study. Furthermore, it should meet visitors’ requirements and make them feel valued when connecting with my portfolio.



Audience and Personas





This case study uses the same two user personas that I have created for my Portfolio Design Case Study. Once again, the end-user has been identified as an individual that is tasked with examining and evaluating the portfolios of potential candidates. Each persona represents a different end-user with different pain points.

Mapping the Flow





The initial step in building the chatbot required a question and response flowchart to be created. The steps in the flowchart would help users to contact me and to find additional content I created that is not displayed on the main portfolio page.



Chatbot Persona





Bob is a quirky chatbot that believes they are human and serve as my assistant. Their personality was developed to be friendly, positive, and knowledgeable. Bob is helpful, and encouraging and uses simple phrases and words. This tone of voice was developed in order to be clearer and more accessible for all visitors.



Writing



The Chatbot flowchart and persona were used to write scripts that greet visitors, help them navigate through the website, and encourage them to contact me. Simple principles guided the script writing and ensured the chatbot would :

  1. Greet visitors
  2. Introduce itself as a chatbot
  3. Encourage users to visit different sections of the website
  4. Encourage users to contact me and collect their details


In order to keep user engagement up, users would not be sent large blocks of text or too many short messages, before allowing them to respond.



Testing



The chatbot is currently in its testing stage and data is being collected.
